I arrived in Halifax in 1984 - I had left Calgary telling friends I was going to sell real estate. I got my license in 1987 and got a job with Ryco Realty. It was the perfect place to begin my career. In a business that offers many different styles of operations, I found I was attracted to this up-scale boutique brand. 

Time offers change and I went to work for Mark Ritchie in 1992. People Realty was another brilliant unique brand that attracted the top producers in the City. Mark showed me what a leader looks like - he was forthright and upfront and had a great sense of humour. 

In 1997 I chose to work for Charles Pace FRI at Harbourside Realty. An advocate for a higher standard of education, Charlie urged his agents to achieve their FRI designation which I did and owe completely to him (and Bev Sweetman). 

In 2002 Sandra Bryant and I created a double- handed brokerage, Bryant McQuinn - it was the beginning of the changing face of real estate, with dominant style and branding amongst the independents. 

Creating Red Door Realty in 2007 was a blend of my experience and reflected my journey in real estate. I feel so fortunate to have a 29 year perspective in the same career in the same city - there is something to be said about that. I lead Red Door Realty with respect for the past and excitement for the future. I am proud to be part of an amazing group of like-minded individuals who all share the same values. We contribute as a group as often and as much as we can to the community and various charities. This wealth of knowledge is the fuel of Red Door Realty.

Jules hails from northeastern New Brunswick. He returned to the Maritimes after living in rural Eastern Ontario and Ottawa, with bouts in Montreal, Toronto, Boston, and Paris. From 1985 to 2009, he owned and operated a spatial design and construction company specializing in interior re-creation, heritage restoration, architectural sculpting and landscape design. Born and raised on the peninsula of Halifax, Chris's life compass first polarized toward real estate when he became an owner of an income property at 17 years old. Constantly watching the growth of HRM real estate, he decided to start a company to consult with various brokerages in 2000 while studying at SMU. His one person small company grew quickly with a focus mainly on high end photography, print and web design for the real estate industry. Four years later in 2004 an opportunity was presented to go in house with a boutique brokerage where he cut his teeth as licensed Realtor. 

Though sheer passion and a very hard work ethic, Chris has become among one of the most respected architectural photographers on the east coast in his spare time. He is very proud of achieving licensing agreements with national heavy weights such as Eureka International Lighting, InterfaceFlor, Innovative Aluminum and local firms such as WBLI, Design 360 Inc, MAC Interiors which represent on thy the time of the iceberg.

We may have hung up (temporarily) our dusty attire and tool belts, but we like to think we bring that that same level of dedication and a practical hands-on approach to our work in Real Estate, and enjoy sharing what we’ve learned along the way.

Roger Dial has a mistress!

With over seven decades in his rear view mirror, you might think he’s getting a bit old for that sort of thing. Well, the fact is this particular love affair started shortly after he arrived in Nova Scotia back in the late 1960s to teach at Dalhousie University. Truth be told, Roger had a couple extra-marital affairs even before coming to Nova Scotia. One of these romances obliged him to earn a doctorate from the University of California (aka “Berkeley”) so that he could profess his passion for the history and politics of China. Alas, after a couple decades, and an assortment of much applauded (but really pretty unromantic) sonnets on the subject, his Sinological courtship dissipated into something pretty close to alienation. Call it a divorce-of-the-mind.

However, Roger’s other California-spawned grape-romance has remained close to his heart (and dissipated balance sheet) all these years. Oh yes, as you may have suspected, there were substantial offspring from this oenological passion: his four decades of pioneering development of wineries and vineyards on both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, and a Goggle-izable array of related entrepreneurial progeny, some successful, and others...well, perhaps a little disappointing...C’est l’amour! But through it all, his one true mistress has never disappointed him, nor failed to keep the home fire burning in his heart. Their intimacy came to public notice in the year 2000 when Roger became a Realtor, and his affection for her has grown richer year-by-year. Literally, Roger Dial will be bonded to this mistress right into the grave. 

Her name is Nova Scotia. And, while he has the time, he most sincerely would like to introduce you to HER.

On any given day, Mark Mullane can be found traversing the city from the downtown core to Seaforth and back – in search of properties for clients. "Some agents like to focus their efforts on a particular neighborhood. I know it's more work, but I pride myself in being up-to-speed on what's happening throughout the city. As a result, I can better help clients assess alternative areas; I can effectively assist clients in their transition from their starter condo to their family home; and I have a better overall knowledge of the HRM real estate market as a whole.”

Before Mark started his career in real estate he spent fourteen years as an award-winning film and television producer, director, and writer for some of Canada’s most-beloved and longest running shows such as This Hour Has 22 Minutes, The New Music, and Street Cents and has produced a number of music videos most notably for the Grammy-award winning band The Arcade Fire. In addition, he was in the indie-famous band North of America that released six albums and tour extensively throughout Canada, USA, and Europe.

The transition from television producer to realtor was natural for Mullane. "A lot of my friends were asking for my advice on real estate because I pay close attention to the market and the community. Because television is such a people business and with my early background of producing a consumer affairs show, representing buyers and sellers of real estate seemed like a natural progression.”

When Jarrett isn’t busy helping clients, he is spending time with his wife and young daughter. He keeps busy managing several of his own income-properties, in addition to being active in the community as a proud member of the Canadian Progress Club, volunteering with the IWK Kermesse Fun Fair and Symphony Nova Scotia.
